Neuro-behavioural
Testing and Facility
The
low level environmental organic pollutants (POPs)
of chemical exposure and their biological effects are
emerging areas of research, e.g., POPS associated
endocrine disruptions and neuro-behavioural changes.
Since these effects are observed at relatively low
levels, caution needs to be taken in ascertaining the
risk estimates. In this context, the Institute
foresees to prepare facilities in neuro-behavioural
testing in human beings.

Modernization
of the Existing FacilitiesThe
existing central facilities (like Library, Animal House,
Exposure chamber, Environmental chamber, Acoustic
Chamber, Analytical Instrumentation, Biostatistics)
requires upgrading to the international standards to
meet the future needs.

The
regional centres were created about 20 years ago to
cater the specific needs of the respective regions. Over
the years, these Centres have grown up and attended some
degree of maturity and their identity. The ROHC(E) has
its own building and the ROHC(S) is going to have its
own in a couple of years. The Centres are now
equipped with the modern analytical equipments. The
Centres could be developed to become Centre of
Excellence in a specialized area. It was recommended
earlier that the Eastern and the Southern Centres could
specalize to become Centre of Excellence in the field of
“Dust Related Lung Diseases” and the “Agriculture
Health” respectively. There is need for
developing more centres for the eastern, northern and
noth-eastern regions.
