Emphasis on the Bioinformatic
The amended laws related to occupational and environmental health emphasizes the importance of  workers and public participation and  their right to know. The electronic means of communication are becoming more and more popular.  In order to communicate with different classes viz. workers, entrepreneurs, scientific community etc.,  in an effective way the Institute need to develop the skill and means to communicate through electronic and printed media. The Institute is already in a process of developing its own web site and has in a small way started developing material for the use of lay people.

Organization of Occupational and Environmental Health Bureau (OEHB)

The NIOH will lead as a nodal agency for greater linkages of the OHS Centers spreads over the country.  It also plans to expand the regional centers (e.g., North and northeast regions) and evolve a mechanism for exchange of information with the state agencies in allied areas. Furthermore, the responsibility of the OEHB will be to examine the existing OHS Acts and regulations and play advisory role in formulation of guidelines. In the long run, the OEHB may be elevated to Occupational & Environmental Health Monitoring Bureau (OEHMB), which will be ideal in forming and revising national occupational health policies.

Control Technology Centre

Research at NIOH has helped in intervention programmes at micro levels in occupational like slate pencil industry, agate industry, asbestos weaving factories, tobacco harvesters etc. However, looking at the magnitude of the problems and vastness of the country, these efforts are petite. Being a unique organization, NIOH is expected to play major role in the area of development of  the modules for the intervention.

In order to re-enforce intervention  programs, the NIOH views in developing a Control Technology Center, with its objectives in (i) feasibility analysis of research into application, (ii) development, popularization and implementation of technology, etc.
